Was actor’s fart a humming fridge or a noisy motorbike?

When Celia Imrie farted on the popular TV show, The Celebrity Traitors, fellow cast members guffawed at the veteran thespian’s flatulist performance, writes showbiz reporter Cheeky Akimbo.

From the media response, however, you might have thought that two tectonic plates had shuddered and a mountain had crumbled to the sea. In truth, Imrie’s short fart was never going to break the sound barrier,

Googling reveals that an average fart will register 20-50 dB (decibels), which compares with the sound of a humming refrigerator. A truly loud one comes in (or out) at around 80 dB and is comparable to a noisy motorbike. Extreme farts of 110-118 db have been compared to the running of a chain saw.

Imrie’s fart wasn’t anywhere near chain saw decibel levels. Nevertheless, it had enough to prompt the show’s host, Claudia Winkelman, to pose a rather disingenuous question, “What just happened?” Imrie might have made a euphemistic reference to starting a motorbike – but she didn’t. She told the plain, unvarnished truth: “I just farted, Claudia.”

Note: Celia Imrie’s fart first aired in 2025. If you missed it or want to hear it again, it’s repeated HERE.
