*The best-known medieval performing flatulist was Roland the Farter. He served as a court jester for King Henry II, who was on the throne from 1154-1189. Roland’s farting for the king’s amusement is a recorded historical fact. Had Roland been born some 700 years later, Queen Victoria would have told him, “We are not amused.” Which just goes to show that you can’t please all of the reigning monarchs all of the time.
